Erdene’s strong management and technical teams are highly experienced in the exploration and development of the commodities on which the company is focused and the geographic regions being explored.
Mr. Akerley has over 25 years of experience in mineral exploration, corporate financing, project development and management of publicly listed resource companies. He is one of the founders and principals of the Erdene group of companies and has held the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation since March 2003. Mr. Akerley is a geologist who has worked extensively in foreign jurisdictions throughout his career, predominately in North and South America and Asia, with a focus on Mongolia, where he has led the technical team through the confirmation of a major molybdenum and copper deposit, the discovery and definition of the Altan Nar gold deposit and recent discovery of the Bayan Khundii gold project. He has extensive experience in corporate M&A, joint venture arrangements and financings, leading the companies through more than 20 such business arrangements since taking the corporation public in 2004. Mr. Akerley served on the Board and Special Committee of Temex Resources Corp. advising on the sale of the company to Lake Shore Gold Corp., and is chairman of the TSX-V listed Morien Resources Corp. where he was involved in the sale of the Donkin Coal and Black Point Aggregate projects, converting those interests into royalties. He also pioneered the company’s involvement as the founding and lead sponsor of the very successful Catapult leadership program in Nova Scotia. Mr. Akerley has a BSc (1988) from Saint Mary's University in Halifax, specializing in geology, and has completed the Institute of Corporate Directors Audit Committee Effectiveness course in December 2012.

Ken W. MacDonald was appointed Vice President in September 2007. He previously held the positions of Vice President North America and Vice President Finance beginning March 2003. Mr. MacDonald is also the Chief Financial Officer of Erdene, a position he has held since March 2003.
From September 1992, Mr. MacDonald has also been the President and owner of Fisher Transport Limited, a specialized transport company. In addition, he was the Vice President of Finance for Kaoclay Resources Inc. from 1996 to June 2006. Prior to 1985, Mr. MacDonald, a chartered accountant, was a senior manager with one of Canada’s major accounting firms. From 1985 to September 1992, he was vice president finance with public and private corporations in the resource sector.
Mr. MacDonald graduated from St. Mary's University in 1977 with a BCom and received his chartered accountant designation in 1980.
Michael MacDonald was appointed Vice President Exploration in 2017 in addition to his position as Director of Exploration, Mongolia to which he was appointed in September 2011. Mr. MacDonald will be responsible for the design and implementation of Mongolia programs, dealing with exploration, development, and management, including working with various government agencies in Mongolia as they relate to Erdene’s land holdings and future interests.
Mr. MacDonald has previous mineral exploration experience in Mongolia, having worked with Erdene’s principals, Mr. Peter Akerley and Mr. Chris Cowan in the mid-1990’s as part of the largest regional exploration program completed by a foreign, western-based, exploration company up to that time. Prior to joining Erdene, Mr. MacDonald held the position of Executive Director of the Mineral Resources Branch for the Province of Nova Scotia, Canada. In this capacity, he was in charge of co-ordinating policy and planning to guide the development, management, conservation and protection of Nova Scotia’s mineral resources.
Mr. MacDonald obtained a BSc (Hons) in Geology from St. Francis Xavier University in 1977 and an MSc in Geology from Dalhousie University in 1982.
Michael Gillis was appointed Vice President Operation in 2017 in addition to his positions as Director of Operations, Mongolia in 2010 and Director of Business Operations to which he was appointed in March 2006. Prior to this, Mr. Gillis was Erdene's Corporate Development Manager, a position he held since joining the company in early 2004. Mr. Gillis has over 25 years of experience in the mineral exploration industry in increasingly senior project and corporate management positions. From 1996 to 2002, he was a project geologist and Land Manager for Kaoclay Resources Inc.
Mr. Gillis obtained his BSc (Hons) in Geology from St. Francis Xavier University in 1985.
Gendenjamtsyn Bat-Erdene (Bat-Erdene) was hired and appointed senior geologist in March 2010. Bat-Erdene is a well respected geologist in Mongolia, with over 25 years experience in the Country’s resource exploration industry, carrying out extensive precious and base metal exploration for international companies such as Rio Tinto and Troy Resources. Bat-Erdene is also a leading member of the Mongolian Geological Society and has been accredited with several publications on Mongolian gold geology.
Bat-Erdene obtained a BSc in Geology from Irkutsk State University in 1986 and an MSc in Geology from the Mongolian Technical University in 1999.
Michael O'Keefe has been Director of Finance since he joined the company in 2005. In 2009, Mr. O’Keefe was appointed Chief Financial Officer of the Company’s controlled subsidiary, Advanced Primary Minerals Corporation.
Mr. O'Keefe has extensive experience in senior finance positions in both public and private companies and was part of the senior management team for one of the "50 Best Managed" private companies in Canada before joining Erdene's management team.
Mr. O'Keefe obtained his BBA (Accounting) from St Francis Xavier University in 1993, received his accounting designation (CMA) in 1997, and his MBA from Saint Mary's University in 2006.
Bayarmaa Bagabandi was appointed Administrative Manager in March 2005. Bayarmaa worked and studied for a number of years internationally before returning to her native Mongolia, where she has been involved in the administrative side of Mongolia’s resource industry for over 15 years. She is fluent in four languages; Mongolian, Russian, English and Korean. Bayarmaa manages administrative operations and is in charge of financial and management regulatory reporting for Erdene in Mongolia. Bayarmaa obtained a Bachelor Degree in Economics from Mongolian National University in 1994 and an MSc in International Economics from Korea’s Sogang University in 1998.
Dawson Brisco was appointed the Corporate Development Manager in 2011. Prior to this, Mr. Brisco managed Erdene’s uranium and coal exploration programs in Mongolia from 2005 to 2010. Mr. Brisco is a geologist with over 10 years experience in the mineral exploration sector. Mr. Brisco obtained his BSc (Hons) in Geology from Saint Mary’s University in 2003.
Suzan Frazer has been Corporate Secretary since March 2003.
Ms. Frazer is a partner of the Halifax office of the law firm, McInnes Cooper. She has been practicing corporate law for over 25 years and is experienced in representing public and private companies in the junior resource sector.
Ms. Frazer's experience includes public offerings and private placements under securities legislation, stock exchange listings, take-over bids, mergers, acquisitions, plans of arrangement and compliance with the continuous disclosure and other requirements of securities legislation.
